BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for a “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Senior Mechanical System Design Leader for Mechanical Development of eDrive Systems. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of mechanical designers to drive the design, development, and validation of advanced mechanical components and systems for electric drive units. This includes comprehensive planning and development of eMotors and gearboxes, as well as their mechanical integration. You will ensure the delivery of high-performance, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that meet the stringent demands of the automotive industry. Your role will focus on developing and managing detailed project plans and schedules to ensure all deliverables are completed on time before project milestone reviews. Additionally, you will be responsible for technical risk assessment and mitigation throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities  

 
1. Team Leadership:

  • Functionally lead a project team of mechanical development engineers and mechanical system architects in the development of eDrive systems, encompassing eMotors, gearboxes, and their mechanical integration.
  • Develop and manage detailed project plans and schedules from a mechanical development perspective to ensure timely and successful project delivery.


2. Technical Oversight:

  • Implement BorgWarner PDP (Product Development Process) and Engineering Development Framework (EDF).
  • Decompose and distribute requirements to mechanical development engineers and mechanical system architects.
  • Schedule reviews of simulations and analyses to validate designs, ensuring they are completed on time.
  • Drive team to develop and document mechanical system and component DFMEAs
  • Drive team to develop and document ADVP&Rs
  • Ensure that designs meet performance, durability, and manufacturability requirements.

3. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Develop and manage detailed project plans and schedules to ensure timely project delivery of engineering work products (Drawings, Specifications, etc.) as per program timing.
  • Report to the System Project Leader and act as the primary technical contact within the mechanical design team.
  • Communicate with various engineering functions such as operations, testing, eHardware, and other stakeholders.
  • Align with the Validation Engineering team to finalize the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R).
  • Prepare and present project status updates, technical reviews, and reports to senior management and other stakeholders.


4. Innovation and Problem Solving:

  • Drive innovation in mechanical design to enhance the performance and efficiency of eDrive systems.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues that arise during the development process.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for improvement in design processes and methodologies.
  • Document and implement lessons learned from current and past programs.


5. Quality and Compliance:

  • Ensure that all mechanical designs comply with industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation per BorgWarner PDP and EDF.
  • Support Quality and Manufacturing teams to develop quality control processes


What we’re looking for  

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience:
  • At least 8 years of experience in mechanical design and development within the automotive or related industry.
  • Proven experience in leading technical projects.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to develop and manage detailed project plans and schedules.
  • Strong ability to assess and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of design workflows and ability to review and guide design activities.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and testing protocols for automotive components.

Nice to have  

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Strong knowledge and experience in developing eMotors, gearboxes, and their mechanical integration.
