BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for a “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Supervisor Mechanical Engineering for Mechanical Development of eDrive Systems including eMotor and gearbox. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of mechanical engineers to drive the design, development, and validation of advanced mechanical components and systems for electric drive units and eMotors. This includes comprehensive planning and development of eMotor and gearboxes, as well as their mechanical integration together with Inverter. You will ensure the delivery of high-performance, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that meet the stringent demands of the automotive industry. Your role will focus on guiding your team during development and managing the growth of the team in terms of quality and quantity. You will guide your team to deliver according to project plans and schedules to ensure all deliverables are completed on time before project milestone reviews meeting our high-quality standards. Additionally, you will supervise and review your teams technical risk assessment and mitigation throughout the project lifecycle.

Job purpose 

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for a “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Supervisor Mechanical Engineering for Mechanical Development of eDrive Systems including eMotor and gearbox. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of mechanical engineers to drive the design, development, and validation of advanced mechanical components and systems for electric drive units and eMotors. This includes comprehensive planning and development of eMotor and gearboxes, as well as their mechanical integration together with Inverter. Key responsibilities 

 

Leadership: 

  • Lead, guide and train a team of mechanical development engineers in the development of eDrive systems, encompassing eMotors, gearboxes, and their mechanical integration together with Inverter. 

  • Develop and grow the team competency to a high performing organization. 

  • Represent BW on fairs and customer meetings for mechanical drivetrain systems. 

Technical Oversight: 

  • Implement BorgWarner PDP (Product Development Process) and Engineering Development Framework (EDF). Work with your team on continuous improvement of our processes, methods and tools. 

  • Regular technical oversight on product design and solutions implementation as well as problem resolution (8D). 

  • Reviews of any technical document prior of release in our data systems. 

  • Drive team to develop and document mechanical system and component in compliance with our process and methods. 

  • Ensure that design meets performance, durability, and manufacturability requirements. 

  • Develop and implement mechanical lab infrastructure. 

Collaboration and Communication: 

  • Develop an open and collaborative team culture and ensure global strong cooperation with our mechanical engineering teams at other technical centres globally and other disciplines. 

  • Work closely with all other engineering and non-engineering functions e.g., Global Supply Management, Quality, Launch Management, Project Management, etc. to ensure teams are well connected and driving towards safe and flawless launch of our products. 

  • Prepare and present high-level product status and plans for organizational development to senior management and other stakeholders. 

Innovation and Problem Solving: 

  • Drive innovation in mechanical design to enhance the performance and efficiency of eDrive systems. 

  • Identify and resolve technical issues that arise during the development process. 

  • Continuously seek opportunities for improvement in design processes and methodologies. 

  • Document and implement lessons learned from current and past programs. 

Quality and Compliance: 

  • Ensure that designs comply with industry standards, regulations, and customer requirements. 

  • Maintain rigorous documentation per BorgWarner PDP and EDF. 

  • Support Quality and Manufacturing teams to develop quality control processes 

What we’re looking for 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. 

  • Experience: 

  • At least 8 years of experience in mechanical design and development within the automotive or related industry. 

  • Proven experience of 3 years in either leading technical projects of larger size or leading design teams for complex mechanical systems. 

  • Experience in working with global organizations. 

    Project Management: 

    • Good project management skills 

    • Strong ability to assess and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle. 

    Soft Skills: 

    • Strong leadership and team management skills. 

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. 

    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 

    • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges. 

    Core Competencies: 

    • Good knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes. 

    • Understanding of design workflows and ability to review and guide design activities. 

    • Familiarity with industry standards and testing protocols for automotive components. 

    Preferred Requirements 

    • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field 

    • Strong knowledge and experience in developing eMotors, gearboxes, and their mechanical integration. 

    • English language skills on level C1
