POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanical Design Architect (MDA) – Transfer Case Homeroom will design and develop advanced and future products for Drivetrain and Morse Systems (DMS). You will interface with Sales, Product Strategy, Business Development, and Application Engineering to determine product needs and customer desires. Collaborating with the design department, potential suppliers, and internal customers, you will create innovative and cost-effective solutions to bring products to realization. Once the product concept is established, you will work alongside the design group to fully define the product and manage prototype procurement to develop working prototypes. You will ensure that the product meets minimum durability requirements in collaboration with the development group and assist the electronic controls/software group in developing products for customer demonstrations. Supporting applications engineering, you will participate in demonstrating products to potential customers and help develop production cost estimates in conjunction with the Advanced Supply Chain team. Your goal will be to advance the product to a point where it is implementation-ready and can be seamlessly integrated into existing product engineering to support production programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Liaise between business development, engineering, and production plants.

  • Participate in design reviews, plant introductions, and customer demonstrations.

  • Effectively communicate new ideas and concepts to engineering management and corporate staff as required.

  • Collaborate with suppliers (internal and external), design, development, and software groups to realize unique product solutions.

  • Maintain an open communicative style, readily accepting input from diverse sources while filtering information appropriately.

  • Represent the business unit in corporate innovation initiatives.

  • Conduct internal design reviews to gather support and benefit from lessons learned within the larger engineering organization.

  • Maintain an open issues log for all new products and keep detailed records of product performance and deficiencies.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • minimum education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering

  • preferred education: Master of Science in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering

  • experience: minimum of 10 years in the design and development of automotive driveline products preferably with a track record of launching new products into production

  • specific skills preferred: Experience with AutoCAD/Inventor or other 3d design software

  • specific industry knowledge preferred: Hydraulic, Electronic, Electro-magnetic actuators and their application
