BorgWarner Emissions, Thermal and Turbo Systems (ETTS) has a new opportunity for a dynamic, results driven
Senior Cost Engineer ensures cost transparency from suppliers, and supports plant & global supply chain, sales, program management and engineering with cost data. As a multidisciplinary unit he provides the should-cost calculations for Emissions, Thermal and Turbocharger components.
This Global Senior Cost Engineer will be located at one of our European ETTS locations (Portugal, Spain, Poland, Hungary, UK or Germany)
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for cost calculations of purchase parts in multiple commodities and manufacturing technologies (Plastic injection molding, Ceramics, Powder Metal, Sintering and associated secondary processes)
Interface with engineering, controlling, sales, manufacturing engineering and supply chain experts to determine part costs
Interface with global commodity managers and buyers to assure alignment between the global sourcing board and cost engineering process
Lead negotiations with suppliers applying should cost methods to reduce quotation prices and implement cost reduction opportunities
Lead negotiations with OEM customers to explain given cost structures and to bridge perceived cost deltas from customer side
Participate in 3P, LPPD, Design-for-Value, VA/VE Workshops with strategic suppliers and internal functions to create and define cost optimization ideas
Identify and implement purchase part cost reduction ideas
Assume the role of a commodity expert being responsible for the continuous improvement of the calculation method for the specific key commodity
Train team members in commodity specific processes and knowledge
Qualifications/Functional Requirements
Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical or Manufacturing/Production Engineering with a strong commercial or economics background or
Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Economic or Business Administration with a strong technical background or similar experience
5 - 8 years professional experience in a related field
3 - 5 years professional experience in the Automotive Industry (Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality Engineering, Procurement, …)
Experience working cross-functionally in an international corporate environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is required
Experience with cost calculation software, ideally Siemens TCPCM
Fluent in English, German is a advantage, additional language is an advantage
This position requires international business travel up to 25% of the time to suppliers, customers and BorgWarner plants
Ability to work self-directed at a fast pace dealing with multiple tasks simultaneously, predisposition to analytical problem solving, and excellent communication skills.
Ideally experience with plastic, ceramic, powder metal, sintered components
