Auburn Hills, Michigan, March 20, 2017 – BorgWarner supplies its proven part-time all-wheel drive (AWD) transfer case for Jiangxi ISUZU Motors Limited, a Chinese-Japanese joint venture. Initially available for the 2016 AWD 2.8-liter diesel Ruimai mid-size pickup truck, BorgWarner’s durable high-performance technology will also drive other upcoming pickup trucks from the automaker. Featuring BorgWarner’s state-of-the-art electronic shift-on-the-fly technology, the transfer case delivers quick, smooth shifts between two-wheel and all-wheel drive for enhanced drivability, both on the road and over rough terrain, while its lightweight construction contributes to improved fuel efficiency.
“We are proud to supply the first Jiangxi ISUZU Motors branded pickup truck with our state-of-the-art AWD technology,” said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager, BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems. “With years of experience in developing all-wheel drive solutions, BorgWarner delivers a superior part-time transfer case to help automakers improve vehicle dynamics while providing drivers with smooth shifts at the turn of a dial. In addition, our local manufacturing and engineering support makes us the supplier of choice for leading Chinese automakers.”
Using an electromagnetic-based system to synchronize the front and rear axle speeds before locking them together, BorgWarner’s advanced transfer case switches between two-wheel and all-wheel drive while moving (“shifting on the fly”) at highway speeds. Unlike conventional mechanical synchronization systems, this robust, high-performance solution provides a smooth, quiet and consistent transition from two-wheel to all-wheel drive. In addition to providing improved noise, vibration and harshness, BorgWarner’s transfer case is equipped with the company’s HY-VO® transfer case chain. Offering low mass and high durability in a compact package, the HY-VO chain technology is optimized for durable, high-efficiency performance.
