Auburn Hills, Michigan, June 27th , 2017 – BorgWarner, a global leader in clean and efficient technology solutions for combustion, hybrid and electric vehicles, supplies its line of high-speed (HS) starter motors developed for the new family of 1.0-, 1.4- and 1.8-liter engines from General Motors (GM) Brazil. Equipping the 2017 Cobalt, Onix, Spin and Montana, and available in automatic or manual transmissions, the automaker’s new generation of engines was updated, recalibrated and enhanced to comply with Brazil’s National Environmental Council standards. BorgWarner’s HS starter motors offer one of the best power-to-weight ratios on the market, delivering a significant reduction in emissions during engine startup.
“We are very proud to help GM Brazil make its vehicles more efficient and environmentally friendly,” said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager, BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems. “Providing local production at the factory in Brusque strengthens our partnership with the automaker and offers GM Brazil global solutions with local expertise.”
Developed in partnership with BorgWarner engineers from Brazil, South Korea and the United States, the HS starter motor is capable of accelerating the combustion engine from 0 to 350 RPM in less than 0.5 seconds. Weighing about 10% less than the former generation, the new starter motor can reach up to 1.4 kW of power.
